Find me on:

2016 has been a year of growth for Accelerate Learning, both in numbers and in positive endeavors. One of the changes was to the core leadership team earlier this year with Amanda McGee becoming the new Director of Curriculum Development.

Amanda is no stranger to Accelerate Learning, before her newfound title she spent her time working on the product as a  curriculum project manager.

"In my time with Accelerate Learning I have had a goal to make science teaching easier and more obtainable to science teachers and students," said Amanda.

Amanda's teaching background played a big role in her growth at the company. She spent her years upon graduating from Louisiana State University as a teacher in Humble, TX. She taught seventh and eighth grade science and high school biology, advanced into a leadership role as a campus instructional coach, before becoming the secondary science coordinator for Humble ISD.

As the district coordinator for Humble she had her first brush with STEMscopes as her district was using TAKscopes in their elementary schools, a predecessor to the STEMscopes curriculum. In 2010, she the opportunity to expand the use of STEMscopes into the secondary grade levels.

Amanda was excited about what STEMscopes was doing for the teachers in the classroom and the continued growth STEMscopes displayed at the CAST conferences. When she found out from a trusted colleague they had an opening for a project manager, she jumped at the chance to apply.

Now that she is the Director of Curriculum Development she is excited to continue on and strengthen ongoing projects even more.

"I am glad to be able to support the team in accomplishing our goals...I have an understanding of what they do because I was once in their position and am glad to help us keep sight of the big picture," she said.

Some of those pieces of the big picture are the continued work in developing California, Georgia, and Florida 2.0 to meet new standards and incorporate teacher feedback in order to be able to be available in upcoming adoptions. The team is also excited to see the growth of the product outside of Texas.

Amanda is very involved with Accelerate Learning but also enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, running, and singing with the LSU Alumni choir, Voice Passato.
